Common
questions.

If yours isn't here, call (623) 207-2008 or email info@standbycooling.com. We'd rather talk you out of the wrong unit than rent you one.

How fast can you get a unit out here?

Most requests inside the Phoenix metro go out the same day. Call before 2pm on a weekday and we're usually on site within a few hours. Evenings and weekends are typically first thing the next morning. Members go out ahead of everyone else from May through September, which is when it actually matters.

Does somebody need to be home?

For the delivery, yes. We fit the window or sliding-door kit, run the exhaust hose, make sure the outlet isn't already carrying a fridge or a space heater, and show whoever is there how to work the thing. About twenty minutes. For pickup we can use a lockbox or a management-company key if the tenant's at work.

What does the unit need to run?

A normal 115V wall outlet and a window or sliding door within about six feet of where it'll sit. Everything we stock runs on household power, so no electrician and no new circuit. The one thing we check is that it isn't sharing an outlet with something that pulls hard on its own, like a refrigerator.

How long can I keep it?

As long as you need. No minimum, no maximum. Most A/C repairs run three to eight days once a part is on order, and that's the window this is built for. If a compressor or a full system replacement stretches into weeks, ask about the weekly and monthly rate.

Is there a deposit?

Not for members. Everyone else leaves a card on file. We authorize it and never charge it unless a unit comes back damaged or doesn't come back at all.

Will one unit cool a whole house?

Usually not, and we'd rather say so than take the rental. A portable unit cools the room it's in, plus whatever air moves through an open door. The realistic goal is one or two livable zones: a bedroom so people can sleep, and a living area so the day is bearable. If you're choosing between one Series 14i in a hallway and two Series 10s in two bedrooms, take the two Series 10s. Past about 1,800 sq ft, ask us about ducted equipment instead.

Who pays, the owner or the tenant?

That's your call and we stay out of it. What we do is invoice cleanly: one line per property with the address, dates, unit and rate, so it goes straight into an owner statement or a tenant ledger without anyone rewriting it. Portfolio and Valley members get everything on one monthly net-30 statement.

What does Arizona law require of a landlord?

Under A.R.S. § 33-1364, cooling is an essential service. If a landlord fails to supply it after reasonable written notice, the tenant can find reasonable substitute housing and stop paying rent for that period. Where the failure was negligent, the tenant can recover excess housing costs up to 25% of the periodic rent. Where it was deliberate, up to the full periodic rent. A tenant can also pay for reasonable cooling themselves and deduct it from rent.

Plainly: a multi-day outage can turn into a hotel bill, a rent abatement, or both. Getting a working unit into the house the same day keeps the tenant housed and keeps things from escalating. We rent equipment, we're not a law firm. Talk to your attorney about your own situation.

Do you handle commercial and heavy-duty jobs?

Yes, by quote. One to five ton ducted spot coolers for offices, server and equipment rooms, restaurants and whole-building outages. The price depends on the equipment, the duration and how hard the site is to get into, so those go through a short call rather than the form.

Can I sign up for membership in the middle of an emergency?

Yes, and people do. Sign up while we're on the way and the member rate and free delivery apply to that rental. For most portfolios the first rental covers the membership outright.

What happens if the unit quits on me?

Call us and we swap it. No charge for the swap and no charge for the hours it was down. Every unit gets tested, filters cleaned and hoses checked between rentals, but machines fail and we'd rather plan for it.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancel before the truck is loaded and there's no charge. After that, members are billed nothing and everyone else is billed the delivery fee only.

Send us the address.

We'll come back with a delivery window, usually within the hour during business hours. If it's urgent, the phone is faster than the form.
